In 1977, while Bob Marley was living in London in a sort of self-imposed exile, he witnessed the explosion of the punk rock movement. While the British media was horrified by punk, Marley saw a kindred spirit in their "anti-establishment" energy.
The song was specifically written as a response to The Clash covering Junior Murvin’s reggae classic "Police and Thieves." Marley wanted to show solidarity between the rastas and the punks.
Release: First released as a 12-inch single in 1977.
Produced by the legendary Lee "Scratch" Perry, which gives the track its distinct, psychedelic, and "heavy" dub feel compared to Marley’s more polished Island Records tracks.
